Innocence

Today there was a mass shooting in CT, 20 children under the age of 10 were killed and 7 adults. It was a young adult, around 24 years old who came in and shot his mother, who was a kindergarten teacher and basically her whole classroom as well as other children and adults. In reading an article, there was a student interviewed who said the teacher had the whole class hid in the classroom bathroom. All the kids were crying and saying how they just wanted Christmas. Christmas, that’s what was on the kids minds when they were faced with death. So young and innocent. I have always had a fear of death and when I was in elementary school, living in our house in NY, my bed was right by the attic door. I always feared somebody was in that door and going to hurt me. My young rational was it’s Easter, it’s Thanksgiving, it’s Christmas… why would somebody hurt or kill me around the holidays. That’s cruel. It’s the holidays. My young mind, naive, innocent mind. There was always the nobody would hurt me... but growing older, you see and hear things. I had a miscarriage and was on the wrong end of the statistics once. The sister of a girl on my message board, she was on the wrong end of the statistics twice, having a full term still born and loosing and 18 mo old son. My father in law was a survivor of a mass shooting... while he survived the chances you would be part of such an event is very low, thus once again, the wrong end of a statistic. These children had an innocence taken away from them. Their lives will never be the same and to some extent always filled with fear. There is something wrong with the world. Who kills a child? Who kills a child in cold blooded mass murder? Who can be so sad or angry at life to take his one relative and the lives of innocent children with him? Children. Children who have their whole lives ahead of them. And at a school where they are supposed to feel safe. WTF is wrong with today’s society.
